Lullaby for Lucia

Fleet Foxes
"White Winter Hymnal"

Just a little older than Lucia, the five-piece Fleet Foxes released their first full-length album on the 3rd of June, but they have already become the critics' little darlings with their self-styled "baroque harmonic pop." If you like this particular track, download it at Pitchfork. The video, which is at least as clever as the melody, is directed by the lead vocalist's brother, Sean. Oh, and thanks to Lauren, who found it first.

Sweet dreams, little one.

I've been hearing Fleet Foxes on the radio station I listen to in the morning. I really can't stand them. I would suggest Miles Davis' Kind of Blue

How can you resist the bearded claymation dudes? The lighting in this video is dreamy. I keep trying to figure out the scale of things.

Steven, for all the things Kind of Blue is [artifact of musical genius, etc.], it is not a lullaby.

Their harmonies come right out CSN&Y, and their lyrics are standard Seattle indie pop. Maybe they aren't as original as some of the critics make them out to be, but who opens a song with a traditional round these days?

1. I was a jerk, and I apologize. At the moment I read this I had just heard 3 songs off their album in a row, because my local indie station has been pushing them like crazy. I have nothing against them as musicians, their harmonies are good, they're decent all the way around. I just really don't like their music and I don't even know why.

2. According to good ol' Webster a lullaby is "a song to quiet children or lull them to sleep." According to that definition Kind of Blue can function as a lullaby. At least in my life it did; I fell asleep to that album countless nights as a baby continuing all the way to the current day.

3. I'm still coming off as a jerk. I think it must be one of those days. I'll be much nicer tomorrow, I promise.

Just for the record, you are not a jerk. You certainly are opinionated, but that's why we like you.

Nice. The claymation reminds me of those old Christmas specials with Rudolf and Frosty the Snowman. We'll have to play it for Lucia and let you know her reaction.
