Expecting . . .
Hello all,
I'd like to announce that Lydia and I are expecting an baby, who (Lord willing) should arrive sometime this summer - probably latish June. I'm arguing for (if it's a man child) Constantine Barrow Carr, and we both agree that Sophia is a good girl's name. I think the boy's name should come from one of the Christian Emperors, but Lydia is somewhat skeptical. However, we will take suggestions if you have any.

Maximilian, Jethro, Blastus (an assistant to one of the Herods), Potiphar, John Taylor Carr III, Jesse Carr II, Halifax, Hornbeam, Switchel, Finus, Feril, Okie B, Barnabas, Theophilus, Eberhard, E-Diddy II, Manchild Carr, Tim Ernst II, Gary Elliott II, Doctor Carr, Reginald (after your cousin), Bill Brasky II.
Just for everyone's information, Jeremy and I have already expressed our heartfelt congratulations via phone, so don't think J. too flippant for the above list of names.
Bill Brasky was my idea. I also vote for Tumnus.
What wonderful news! No wonder you two have been so homey lately.
I second John Taylor Carr III.
Congrats. I think the name should be T.W.
Congratulations. Promptness is a virtue where I'm from.
I hope you don't mean that with Constantine Barrow. The other kids will call Lil' Constantine "Connie", and a Barrow is something you bury a dead person on/in. Plus, whether or not Constantine was Christian at all in anything but expedient name is very much debated. The later emperors may be a safer bet.
I do recall that one of the Christian emperors was called John, so John Taylor III would be both fitting and classy, and he can go by, you know, something like Jack. Otherwise, I think Justinian would be the emperor to go for, no?
Of course there's a set of other Christian Emperors with names like Emmanuel and Joshua, but maybe that's getting too esoteric.
Or those of the Holy Roman Empire with their manly ring to them -- Carl, for instance, or Roland, his vassal.
So...um... in keeping, with your initials, perhaps Justinian Tumnus would be not as bad as/much more charming than at first it might sound. Let's hope he has your curls and good taste in scarves.
Thanks for the congrats! Names have been duly noted, particularly Switchel. However, we don't yet know of what gender the child will partake. It shall remain a surprise, we've decided, so girl's names are welcome too (it's not a contest - we do reserve the right to name 'it' something sensible).
I, in my large sense of generosity, give you first dibs on Master Sylvester, as Nate and I will not be needing it. Sorry, Kelly. I very much like JT3. And Sophia would be beautiful. There's a nice sermon, given by my friend Jen, on wisdom, the divine Sophia here: http://rudesermons.blogspot.com/2007/06/who-is-she-and-how-do-we-know-her.html.
I like switchel, too.
This is totally none of my business, but I meandered my way over here and was intrigued.
If it were my kid, I'd go for Justinian. Or Justin Ian to keep him from getting made fun of. Bonus- if it's a girl, you can name her Justine Ian.
Good luck baby-ing!
I chatted with Ballenger about this and he suggests Ives A. Carr. And then make sure he gets his doctorate.
